Alongside DJs Jason Kaye and Mikey B, they formed the infamous Top Buzz.

In 1992 they released the massive anthem “Living In Darkness” which can he still heard at all major Old Skool and New Skool events. His voice has also been sampled back in 93 on the massive jungle hit by DJ Taktix – Its The Way (Are you ready for some jungle techno)

It has to be said that Mad P is one of the true originators of rave MCing as we know it today and has paved the way for the other artists to follow. He is still actively MCing across the UK and the Globe at events like: Raveology, Fantasia, Slammin  Vinyl and Hardcore Till I Die to name a few.

How firm thy friendship, MT20? The local band said it places more importance on friends, fun and the Ohio State Buckeyes than on their instrumentals.

The members of MT20 have spent more time performing on campus porches and house parties than on stage, and they like it that way. Jake Caldwell, Anthony Pezzutti, Dave Norris, Mitch Derr and Jared Morris play their own style of rock/reggae with hopes that the crowd will dance, not that they will hit it big in the music industry.

MT20 is scheduled to perform Friday at “Snowed In With MT20,” featuring local bands My Beloved Tragedy, Sandcreek, Hollyview and Orange Willard at Newport Music Hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The members attended St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus together. They picked up Morris, the guitarist, after graduating high school and started playing at OSU parties for fun.

Caldwell, a fourth-year in communication and social work, said students are the band’s main demographic and OSU pride is very present during their shows.

“We are all huge Ohio State fans. Some shows we take shots and do OSU chants between songs,” Caldwell said. “Dave has Brutus the Buckeye tattooed on his arm and ‘Ohio’ on his back.”

Caldwell said they proved their Buckeye pride when they played a game-day party near campus that the cops busted.

“They threatened to arrest us, but we wouldn’t stop until the song was over,” Caldwell said. “We love OSU.”

Pezzutti’s parents, Mary and David Pezzutti, are members of local cover band Old Skool. They gave MT20 its first gig as an opening act five years ago.

Caldwell said they have come a long way since then.

“We sucked,” Caldwell said. “We were so scared. I threw up before the show and right after. I forgot the lyrics to probably half the songs.”

Derr, drummer and a sixth-year in sociology and Spanish, said support from friends and family has been the driving force behind their performances.

“It’s a very welcoming atmosphere because we’re all friends,” Derr said. “Everyone’s just there to have a good time. It’s kind of like a big party.”

Derr said the band’s success comes from not taking itself too seriously.

“We’re dedicated to what we do, we love it, but at the same time, we don’t let it consume us,” Derr said. “We just have a good time with it.”

Sublime, The Black Keys and The Beatles are among its influences. Anthony Pezzutti said some songs also have a hip-hop vibe and its genre jumping helps the band appeal to a larger audience.

“No matter what you’re into, we’re pretty sure you’re gonna hear something you like at one of our shows,” Anthony Pezzutti said.

Caldwell said while the band members aren’t the most “mind-blowing” musicians, they make the most of their talents with high-energy performances and a sound that has grown over the years.

“We’re not trying to shatter anyone’s universe with our music,” Caldwell said. “If you come to a show, you’ll see that we’re friends playing music. We just mesh well together.”

Caldwell said the band doesn’t have plans to pursue a larger audience, but if the opportunity came, they would love to play full time.

“We’re not trying to get famous or anything like that,” Caldwell said. “We’re just here to have fun.”

Trent Sheumaker, an OSU alumnus, said the best part about going to an MT20 concert is the party atmosphere.

“They know how to please the crowd,” Sheumaker said. “If you come see them play, it’s pretty much a guaranteed good time.”

With New Year’s Day being not only the final leg of The Warehouse Project’s 2011 season but also the final ever show at the Store Street venue, expectations were naturally high as this clubbing institution celebrated the end of what’s been a spectacular era. Unfortunately, a few blips in the build up to the night dampened spirits a little. Several of the artists on the original line-up had pulled out – notably Jamie Jones (apparently he was never actually confirmed to play), Tensnake  and Davide Squillace. It is a testament to the man’s quality and fitting recognition of his position at the pinnacle of the house music scene for the last decade that Laurent Garnier was asked to play the final ever set at Store Street for The Warehouse Project. And I say this with absolutely no overreaction: it is possibly the best set I have ever seen live.It was the kind of set you’d hear on Radio1’s Essential Mix, or from some club or festival you would never get the chance to be at. It seemed like every song was edited, mixed and remixed to fit perfectly into the next. He played a very progressive tech trance set including Radiohead ‘Everything in Its Right Place (Andi Muller remix)’, which was rife with pianos and sax lines. Of course one sax line stood out amongst the others in ‘Man with the Red Face’. The lighting came down and the room filled with a light layer of smoke as that famous line played through the old venue and united everyone. Perfect! Despite the mix ups before the night it has to be said that the final night at Store Street was still an amazing spectacle of talent and the DJs really shone and stepped up to the mark.Whether it’s the portaloo toilets, the burger van in the smoking area or the unpredictability of the organisers, there is something very special about this venue. And I think I speak for a generation of Projectors when I say so long Store Street it’s been a pleasure!

This time last year, a mysterious slab of white label adorned vinyl entitled ‘Die On The Dancefloor’ had the pill poppers and fashionistas in a frenzy, taking all and sundry back to a time when Donna Summer and great dame of camp Sylvester were all the rage.

Of course, a slight trawl through the history books reveals that Speede, or Tyson as he’d rather be known, isn’t exactly a newcomer when it comes to creating dance friendly rhythms. Having cut his teeth five years ago in then hotly tipped trio Unklejam, you could say he’s dusted himself down, learned from his mistakes, ditched his partners in crime and come back wiser as a solo artist. Certainly the furore surrounding the album’s lead track kind of justifies the build-up somewhat, even if the rest of ‘Die On The Dancefloor’ doesn’t quite live up to such lofty expectations.Coming on like a modern day Giorgio Moroder swapping make-up tips with Hercules And Love Affair, Tyson’s debut long player consists of ten slices of often-identical funk dating back to an age where amyl nitrate and Babycham were the cocktails of the day. While lacking in testosterone for the most parts, ‘Die On The Dancefloor’ serves up a number of suavely constructed pieces that would grace any late night establishment whose sole intention is to keep its clientele throwing ridiculous shapes until the early hours.Recent single ‘After You’re Gone’, itself formerly given the makeover treatment by both Dimitri From Paris and Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard stands out as an accomplished piece of eighties-tinged retro pop, while the transient ‘Mr Rain’ finds Tyson in full diva mode belting out its chorus like a long lost lovechild of Marc Cerrone and Gloria Gaynor.Unfortunately, far too many of the songs on ‘Die On The Dancefloor’ mould into each other highlighting a similarity that relies on far too close inspection in an attempt to differentiate for comfort. Ultimately, while ‘Die On The Dancefloor’ isn’t a bad introduction to the masses for Tyson, while paving an undeniable gateway into the avenues of production and engineering for many years to come, there’s an element of déjà vu which reoccurs far too many times for comfort, and as a result renders this only half the album it undoubtedly could have been.6/10Dom Gourlay
