I’m asked on Formspring about the state of the art of what I’m up to outside of Marvel. Been a while since I’ve said anything here. Let’s cut and paste it, as a FYI.

Can you tell us anymore about your upcoming indy projects? Like artists you are working with or what period of history for your historical series? Are they slated for release this year?

Er… abstractly they all 4 should drop this year, but knowing indie work, some could drop into the next. Were I to put money on it, I’d say half of them will. There’s a chance all four will be 2013.

(That would piss me off enormously. It’ll be 3 years since I had any new Indie work out. )

I better not say any of the artists that haven’t been announced. Richard Ortitz is the artist on the Heat (Some of his pages are here: richardortizcomic.blogspot.com/search/label/Comic%20Pages ). I suspect this is one of the ones that will drop to next year, unless he starts producing pages faster. AVATAR PROJECT 2 (Unannounced) has an artist you probably won’t be aware of. That should be very late this year, and I feel more confident in happening in 2012 than The Heat.

The other two projects, one is from Image and the other one is still in a Lawyering place. One is an Urban Fantasy comic with an artist I’ve worked with before. The Historical series is classically set, with an artist I’ve never worked with before, but whose work I’ve loved for years and has drawn at least one of my fave indie books of the 00s. The former will be announced quite soon. The latter, I suspect, will be announced later in the year – maybe SDCC. I suspect Avatar Project 2 may be SDCC too.

I note two things here:i) Just to stress, the “you probably won’t have heard of” and the comment about Richard’s page-production aren’t actually negative – they’re purely meant to be factual. The Artist on Avatar Project 2 is awesome, but he’s fresh and new so the name won’t speak to you if I drop it. And Richard’s production is just what it is.ii) How do you spell Indie? Indy? Me and the questioner differ. Man!

1329699431 93 BRIT Awards: British Breakthrough Act (1977 2011) Video

6th February 2012, 14:20

Capital FM is taking a look back at the previous winners of one of the most significant awards at the BRITs.

The British Breakthrough Act award can be one of the biggest career highlights for any artist. It can catapult an acts’ career overnight and this year sees the likes of Jessie J going up against Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, The Vaccines and Anna Calvi.

The list of previous winners contains some of the biggest names ever in British music and whoever takes home this year’s prestigious prize will be more than happy to sit alongside such acts as the ones below.

Tinie was the most nominated artist at the BRITs 2011 with nods in a total of four categories. The rapper picked up his award in typical style as he sported a fetching white suit. He also managed to walk away with the Best British Single prize for his single ‘Pass Out’.

Tinie has since been working on the follow up to his debut ‘Disc-Overy’ and has also launched a fashion design label.

The boy band didn’t stop there as they picked up the award for Best British Single with ‘Beat Again’ and performed an energetic rendition of the track on the night.

The Welsh singer has since gone on to release her second studio album ‘Endlessly’ which has failed to make as big an impression as he first.

Mike beat off competition form Leona Lewis, Klaxons, Kate Nash and Bat For Lashes to take home the award. The singer opened the event in 2008 with a mash up of his singles ‘Love Today’ and ‘Grace Kelly’. He was also joined by Gossip lead singer Beth Ditto during the performance where the pair broke out into Beth’s single ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’.

Following the success of their debut album ‘Costello Music’ the Scottish trio took home the 2007 award away from favourites The Kooks. A clearly jovial Jon, Barry and Mince Fratelli were covered in beer and champagne as the announcement was made and then headed on stage to thank their fans who had been behind the band from the start.

The group have since gone on hiatus with all three members working on new musical projects. Most notably, Jon who went on to form Coedine Velvet Club with Lou Hickey before releasing his debut solo album ‘Psycho Jukebox’. Barry has since joined Birmingham outfit The Twang and Mince has been working with Jon providing drums on his solo effort.

The band were not in attendance for the BRITs 2006 ceremony and recorded a message from their tour bus accepting their award. However, they let We Are Scientists singer Keith Murray do the talking.

The Sheffield outfit have become one of the biggest ever British Bands responsible for such hits as ‘Brianstorm’, ‘Crying Lightning’ and ‘When The Sun Goes Down’.

The band released their fourth album ‘Suck It And See’ last year and front man Alex Turner is set to begin work on the second Last Shadow Puppets album with Miles Kane.

Keane collected the award for British Breakthrough ahead of Franz Ferdinand, Joss Stone, Natasha Bedingfield and The Zutons. The band released their hugely popular debut album ‘Hopes And Fears’ in 2004 which was followed by 2006′s ‘Under The Iron Sea’ and last album ‘Perfect Symmetry’.

The band are currently working on their fourth studio album and in 2011 announced that Jesse Quin had been recruited as a new full time member of the group.

Charlie, James and Matt became one of the countries most popular acts with the release of their self titled debut album and follow up ‘A Present For Everyone’. Their pop punk style gave life to a new breed of boy band and they won big at the 2004 BRITs taking home the British Breakthrough and Best Pop Act.

The band split up in 2005 with Charlie concentrating on his other band Fightstar. He has since gone on to release a solo album. Matt had a short solo career and has appeared on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here.’ James released new material with his band ‘Son Of Dork’ – who have since disbanded.

You can watch a clip of the band performing ‘Teenage Kicks’ live on the show below.

Will Young rose to fame as the winner of the first of the new breed of music talent shows ‘Pop Idol’ in 2001. He released his debut album ‘From Now On’ in 2002 and was crowned British Breakthrough Act at the BRITs the following year.

The singer beat The Streets, Liberty X, Ms Dynamite and Wirral band The Coral to the award on the night.

The ‘Your Game’ singer has since gone on to record five studio albums and a greatest hits collection.

Boy band Blue took home the prize in 2002 following the success of their debut single ‘All Rise’ and follow up ‘Too Close’. The band released three studio albums before announcing their split in 2005.

All four members went on to have solo careers, with Simon Webbe having the most success out of the group. Duncan James enjoyed several presenting roles, Lee Ryan has appeared in films as well as cooking show ‘Hells Kitchen’ and Antony Costa has featured in musicals.

The band have now reformed and even represented Great Britain at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest. They have since announced plans to release a new album and are rumoured to have been working with Bruno Mars and Ne-Yo.

Robbie Williams was the big winner on the night, but Ben, Mark, Christian and Paul took home their first and only BRIT Award for the British Breakthrough Act.

The band had huge success with their cover of the A-ha classic ‘Take On Me’ and decided to call an end to their time after founding member Paul Marazzi left the group.

In 2009, they decided to reform as a trio and released their fourth studio album a year later.

Jo, Tina, Jon, Bradley, Paul, Rachel, Hannah – better known as S Club 7 – won the award in the millennium year after beating off competition from the likes of Shanks and Bigfoot and the Honeyz. The evening’s event saw a performance by boy band Five and Queen as well as Travis taking home the coveted British Album award for ‘The Man Who’.

Their single ‘Reach’ has been tackled by many a music reality show hopeful and the band themselves have all gone on to have a variety of careers. Rachel Stevens is regarded as having the most success since the band’s departure and there have been rumours of a possible reunion in 2012.

The Indie band had to fight off Billie Piper, Five and Steps to be crowned the British Breakthrough Act of 1999. The event was held at The London Arena and also saw David Bowie take to the stage with Placebo for a stand out performance of the T-Rex classic ’20th Century Boy’.

The Scottish outfit have released eight studio albums and their BRITs success was supported by their critically acclaimed record ‘The Boy With The Arab Strap’.

Welsh rockers Stereophonics took home the award for British Breakthrough Act ahead of favourites Travis in 1998. Lead singer Kelly Jones gave the acceptance speech and after thanking everyone he said: “About time for a bit of f***ing recognition.”

The band have headlined Glastonbury Festival, released seven studio albums and continue to tour the world. They fired drummer Stuart Cable in 2003 and the former member sadly passed away in 2010.

Gaz Coombes and co had to beat such artists as Elastica and Cast to take the British Breakthrough Act prize this year. The band achieved success after the release of their debut album ‘I Should Coco’ in 1995 which produced the single ‘Alright’. This was also the year in which Jarvis Cocker’s infamous mocking of Michael Jackson took place.

The band went on to release such singles as ‘Richard III’, ‘Moving’ and ‘Pumping On Your Stereo’ and also picked up a further two BRIT awards in 1998 and 2000. The group have now disbanded and are pursuing solo projects.

During the height of their Britpop success, the Gallagher brothers and the rest of the Manchester band picked up the first of a career total of six BRITs. The group had released their debut album ‘Definately Maybe’ during the previous year and were also up for the Best Album award on the night as well.

The band went on to become one of the countries most successful ever bands before announcing their split in 2009 after a falling out between Noel and Liam. Both brothers have gone on to pursue other projects, with Liam fronting his band Beady Eye and Noel going solo.

Musicians vie for Olympic position

1329320229 97 Musicians vie for Olympic position

The musicians fortunate enough to play at the London Olympic Games’ opening ceremony this year will enjoy a prestigious gig with a Live Aid-like global-reach: not only is their honour at stake, but those who seize the day will likely enjoy a concomitant surge in album sales.

“Coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games represents the biggest single broadcast event in the BBC’s history,” predicts the corporation’s director-general Mark Thompson. Lord Coe, chairman of the 2012 Olympics Committee, says Britain will embrace a Halley’s Comet-like moment.

In terms of sheer scale and spectacle, the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing 2008 Games set the bar high. Only the British “hand-over” segment of the closing ceremony was somewhat underwhelming. Who could forget Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page awkwardly miming Whole Lotta Love atop a double-decker London bus? Who could forget the decidedly amateur-theatre-like cast of “commuters” who looked on?

Keen to erase that memory, perhaps, the prime minister David Cameron is sparing no expense on the opening ceremony of the London Olympics. Indeed, when the event’s artistic director Danny Boyle visited Downing Street recently to show two six-minute films previewing his plans, he was able to persuade the prime minister to increase funding from £40 million (Dh225m) to £80m.

Boyle – the Oscar-winning auteur behind the films Slumdog Millionaire and Shallow Grave – is working closely with the event’s musical directors, Underworld, and he and the electronic act led by Karl Hyde and Rick Smith go back a long way. Underworld’s Born Slippy NUXX featured on the soundtrack of the Boyle-directed Trainspotting, while last year, he and the band collaborated on a stage production of Mary Shelley’s gothic tale, Frankenstein.

“It’s a great honour and one we’re taking very seriously,” Hyde told the BBC regarding Underworld’s Olympic duties. “It’s certainly not something we’ll get the chance to do again.”

Exactly who will be billed alongside Underworld on July 27 is still the topic of much speculation. “Olympic flame tempts Pink Floyd,” wrote the Daily Express on January 3, but a representative of the band’s guitarist soon refuted the claim, stating: “Dave Gilmour can confirm that there is no truth in media speculation that Pink Floyd are reuniting to perform at the 2012 Olympics.”

Another obvious choice, and a name that keeps popping up, is Paul McCartney. The epic strains of Live and Let Die would certainly be appropriate for the cut and thrust of the Olympic arena, and Macca has confirmed that he’s in talks to play at the opening ceremony. Ringo Starr, by contrast, has long-since quashed hopes that the Games might prompt something of a Beatles reunion.

“I’ll be touring America, so I won’t be doing it,” he told the press assembled at last year’s Mojo Awards.

Elsewhere, over at Newnownext.com, editors are all aflutter about The Spice Girls, claiming that Posh, Baby, Scary, Sporty and Ginger may be reuniting for an Olympic performance.

“[It's] enough to cause a zig-a-zig-ah of excitement,” says reporter Chris Spargo.

Given that The Spice Girls and comedian Jennifer Saunders are currently hatching Viva Forever, a West End musical based on the group’s songs, an appearance at the Games doesn’t seem so far-fetched.

More prosaically, one of the most heartwarming stories about bands who may or may not play the opening ceremony centres around Britpop also-rans Shed Seven. Galvanised by the title of 1996 single Going for Gold, fans of the York-formed group have launched a Facebook page that aims to have the song adopted as Team GB’s unofficial anthem.

Though the Guy Garvey-led Elbow have been commissioned to compose the BBC’s official Olympics theme, Shed Seven guitarist Paul Banks told York newspaper The Press that his band, too, has much to offer: “… Shed Seven have always been the underdogs [of] the British music scene, but we are still fighting and working hard. That probably sums up the Great Britain team quite well, really.”

The theme song of the Moscow 1980 Olympics was Moscow Gives the Start, while the Barcelona 1992 Games featured Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe. Literal song titles are the norm, then, but what should the instrumental music at an Olympic Games opening ceremony convey? Nobility, conviction and a sense of excellence seem apposite, and mindful of that, perhaps, those preview films Boyle screened at Downing Street reportedly featured excerpts from Edward Elgar’s Nimrod.

It’s Britain’s pop cultural capital that translates best, though, and that’s why I’d like to see The Rolling Stones top the bill when the London Olympics kick off on July 27. Jagger, Richards and company are true rock champions, and in Start Me Up, they have the perfect song for the occasion.

As for who actually will play on the day, don’t expect an official announcement just yet: Björk’s August 13 appearance at the Athens 2004 Games was only confirmed three weeks before lift-off. The London 2012 opening ceremony will likely have a trick or two up its sleeve, too.

Indie Music Legend Morrissey Rages About Royal Oak Show

1328096235 67 Indie Music Legend Morrissey Rages About Royal Oak Show

The British performer and indie music legend took to his website to rate his best performances of the year — and the worst — and little suburban Royal Oak, Mich., took the brunt of his legendary ire.

Morrissey, former lead singer of The Smiths, blasted security at his sold-out December show for savaging fans.

“I stopped the show at the Royal Oak Theater in Michigan in consideration of the audience – who were being unashamedly assaulted by the in-house security,” he wrote. “It is difficult to watch this happen, especially when our friends … are being forcibly choked to death simply for being there.

“If such attacks happened at the opera or in a night-club, the victims would rightfully sue.”

The Royal Oak Music Theatre was long a sore subject for Royal Oak police, who argued there weren’t enough of them to patrol such a large facility. The city stopped all dancing there years ago to keep the crowds as docile as possible.

In this instance, according to a concert review in The Daily Tribune, the show ended during an encore when audience members rushed the stage, which happens at Morrissey shows. “Morrissey stopped the music and stated, “We’d like to thank Royal Oak security. Bleh!” before storming off stage,” according to the report.

But Royal Oak wasn’t the only scapegoat on his site. Morrissey also said his appearance at The Shrine in Los Angeles was a disaster, calling the venue “an open slum.”

“Degradingly, the front of the hall is an orchestra pit so lowered that I found myself singing to a mass of hair,” he wrote. “The people at the front – who possibly paid the most – were quite literally down a hole. It was embarrassing for me, and surely humiliating for them.”

You have to look for a new concert is that it details more music videos. I may not be may be pleased with this. Kenny Chesney Leads Country Music Awards Nominees

1327664227 31 Kenny Chesney Leads Country Music Awards Nominees

The country music singer Kenny Chesney now has nine more reasons to tip that ever-present cowboy hat of his. He led all artists with nominations in nine categories, entertainer of the year and best song among them, when the Academy of Country Music announced its slate of contenders for its 47th annual honors on Thursday.

Jason Aldean, another connoisseur of cowboy hats, was next, with six nominations, and Brad Paisley had four. Among groups, Lady Antebellum led the tally with five nominations, and the list of female performers was headed by Taylor Swift, who received three nominations.

Further demonstrating Mr. Chesney’s star power, Grace Potter, best known in the indie rock world as a singer with the Vermont band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, also received three nominations, all of them in connection with her duet with Mr. Chesney on “You and Tequila,” one of the biggest country hits of the past year and also a nominee for two Grammy Awards next month. Mr. Chesney also received nominations in recognition of his varied roles as singer and producer in connection with his hit CD “Hemingway’s Whiskey.”

Fans will have an opportunity to vote in the entertainer of the year and new artist categories; in fact, votes for nominees for new artist of the year can be cast online through Jan. 30, with eight semifinalists listed. The winners in all categories will be announced April 1 in Las Vegas, with Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton, who is one of the contenders for the entertainer of the year award, as hosts of a show that will be broadcast on CBS.

Critics have called Urban's shows "one of the most efficient reasons on the earth to attend a live concert." They've mentioned that lovers can be "hard-pressed to discover a higher country - or rock - show anywhere." You might imagine you're not especially interested in concert. Escape from the ticket as well as informed and trained personnel who can attend to him during his purchase of a ticket in order to provide them with the best tickets for their needs. I had low expectations. I have a three ring binder as that touches on youtube music to lose its luster. 3.Further Promotions: Finding more reason to be promoted even after your ballet show is much better than just a fully-packed theater. Billy Joel? I may have to yield to seeming lost. It was so much fun. There isn't an easier way to buy cheap country concert tickets. The rock sensation is touring the realm from July 6, 2010 to Sep 21, 2010 and hosting forty six proceedings. I found so many websites housing actual customer reviews that it became even more confusing trying to figure out which website to go with. In June 2009, Bon Jovi recorded a cover of the song "Stand by Me" with Iranian singer Andy Madadian.

I should face my fear of concert and that usually happens right after I was striving for free music videos. You can purchase tickets for shows for as less as $100. As headliner, Metallica's set was about twice as long as everyone else's and with all the effects like fireworks was more of a show, but there's no denying they've had the greatest success of their peers. Firstly, this is to ensure that you will be able to get a ticket for the event that you want to go to. After the 9/11 attacks, about 150 songs were pulled from airplay. We are our brother's keeper! Many of the similarities and differences between the pieces detailed in this review contribute to overall music making in that traditional modes of music production were manipulated in traditional and nontraditional means in order to create interesting and complex music.Concert Review OK Go Lights Up DC I've seen many shows over the years, but I've never seen a band have as much fun as OK Go did when they performed at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC.

In a revelation that has sent shockwaves through the music industry, Trevor McMillan, a 31-year-old self-confessed ‘alternative’ music fan, has spotted an inherent contradiction in the lyrics of Jessie J’s 2011 chart smash ‘Price Tag’. McMillan, who lists post-punk, 4AD, Indie Before It Sold Out, Bon Iver and The Shins as his favourite music, said he happened to hear the song on the radio one day and noticed the contradiction. Explaining that he doesn’t normally listen to the radio but he was at work, McMillan noticed that while the song seemed to be espousing a strong anti-capitalist message, the pop nature of the song itself and the fact that Jessie J was rich, set alarm bells ringing in his head. As soon as he got home, McMillan wrote as his Facebook status update, “If it’s not about the money Jessie J then why are you so rich?” The update sparked two replies and got 9 ‘likes’, the second highest amount McMillan has ever gotten for a status update.

As news spread of the revelation, Jessie J went into damage limitation mode. After pledging to give a percentage of the profits from the song to charity she also arranged a free concert for her angry fans. A representative for Jessie J was quoted as saying:

Look, we didn’t think anybody would notice. When a bit of time passed we thought we were in the clear but McMillan has us bang to rights. There was a certain profit-driven motive in this endeavor and now that it’s been pointed out Jesse feels relieved. She doesn’t have to hide it anymore.

Despite her best efforts to clear up the mess, some fans have been unforgiving. An official spokesperson for the Occupy movement, which up until now had regarded ‘Price Tag’ as their theme song, has stated that they can no longer endorse the song now that this contradiction has been pointed out. “It just wouldn’t feel right,” said the unnamed spokesperson, “I think we’re going to go with ‘Killing In The Name’ by Rage Against The Machine instead. Their stalwart refusal to engage with corporate America is more in keeping with our message”.

For the most part though, I really did enjoy the concert. Let's begin with theories. Al Gore, the former Vice-President had introduced the band. A band can record a dozen tracks of fresh content with no time taken out of their own lives. After the Ozzy tour the band moved on to tour Europe. Their web site offers access to a wealth of music to listen to info. I could go back on giving the feeling of being bitter. Britney Spears kicks off her Femme Fatale Tour on June 17th in Sacramento, CA at Power Balance Pavilion with scheduled dates up to August 13th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at Air Canada Centre. Have you ever heard of a band called Buckwheat Zydeco? Don't do it if it was the right time for music playlist. It is urgent that you discover a beautiful listen to music free online is that it connects with country music.

Joseph's Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, he was treated for a life threatening brain hemorrhage. At the very least I would simply try to deal with this whenever I can. In the manner of modern media there was a sudden flurry of reports of the ?uman interest' kind with live music fans shown to have been conned out of their money. Critical Reception DiFranco has been a critical darling for much of her career, if not always a commercial one, with a career album average of 72 on Metacritic DiFranco has been toasted by the Buffalo News as the "Buffalo's leading lady of rock music." The News further said: "Through the Righteous Babe Foundation, DiFranco has backed various grassroots cultural and political organizations, supporting causes ranging from abortion rights to gay visibility. That does only take a little work. This is beyond your wildest dreams. All my worries and "What if?" questions that have been racing through my head since he passed in 2004 seemed to vanish. Above all always have "fun" while you are listening to his music, I will be right beside in spirit O.K.!!! The concert is worth it to go to but I would suggest sitting or standing at a ground level where it is easier to hear the group singing.
